SUV Driver Who Crashed at NAIA Terminal 1 Tests Negative for Alcohol & Drugs
The SUV driver who accidentally rammed passenger entrance of NAIA Terminal 1 has tested negative for alcohol and illegal drugs.
On Tuesday (May 6, 2025), the Philippine National Police’s aviation security group said in a statement that the 47-year-old driver tested negative for alcohol and illegal drugs. This confirms that the driver was not under the influence at the time of the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of a 5-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man.
“A physical examination also revealed no visible injuries at the time,” the authorities stated.

According to authorities, the driver had just dropped off his employer at the airport before the accident happened. Based on the ongoing investigation by the Aviation Security Group, the crash is currently being treated as a case of human error.
Aside from the two fatalities, others were injured, and the property at the terminal entrance sustained damage.
The driver is now facing multiple charges due to the incident. These include two counts of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, as well as charges for causing physical injuries and property damage.

To ensure accountability, the Land Transportation Office has suspended the driver’s license for 90 days while the investigation continues. The move is part of standard procedures when a driver is involved in such a serious case.
Authorities are still piecing together all the details to fully understand how and why the crash happened. As of this writing, there’s no sign of foul play or substance abuse, which narrows the cause down to possible driver error or other factors being looked into.
The authorities were aiming to bring justice to the victims and improve safety measures in busy transport areas.
