Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Advised Sen. Imee Marcos during a Campaign Rally to Change her Last Name
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator spoke on the joke of Vice President Sara Duterte during a campaign rally to change her last name.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has been joining several campaign sorties since her return from The Hague, Netherlands. She was at The Hague for more than three (3) weeks to set the legal team of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his legal battle before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The elder Duterte’s arrest last March 11 brought political turmoil in the Philippine government. Following the arrest, Sen. Imee Marcos opened a Senate investigation on the arrest of the former President amid her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, and the government earning criticisms over what happened.
In one of the campaign sorties that the VP has joined, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte apologized to the Filipinos for endorsing Pres. Bongbong Marcos in 2022. She also claimed that she accepts the apology of his sister, Sen. Marcos, for convincing her to take the vice presidential race with him.
Amid the feud between her and the President, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is endorsing Sen. Imee Marcos in the upcoming elections. According to her, the Senator as well as her other senatorial bets, Las Piñas Congresswoman Camille Villar and the #Duter10 of the PDP-Laban, share a common vision of a peaceful and progressive country.
Vice Pres. Duterte previously reaffirmed her friendship with Sen. Marcos amid the political turmoil in the Philippine government due to her father’s arrest. She even expressed her willingness to attend the Senate probe that investigates the controversial turn of events last March 11.
Recently, in one of the campaign sorties they attended, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte joked on Sen. Imee Marcos to change her last name. After advising her to change her last name, the Vice President sparked another laughter from the crowd when she said that she will be a Romualdez.
Based on a post on Facebook, Sen. Imee Marcos was asked about the joke of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte telling her to change her last name. According to the Senator, she believes she should not do so as she is loyal to the teachings of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
“Sa palagay ko hindi ako dapat magpalit kasi tapat ako sa turo ng aking ama,” the Senator said based on the post.
At a campaign sortie, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte explained that Sen. Imee Marcos is different from Pres. Bongbong Marcos. They’ve known each other for several years now and she believes that their friendship is beyond politics.
