Man Injured After Being Attacked by Crocodile Inside Enclosure in Zamboanga
A man gets injured after jumping into a crocodile enclosure inside the Kabug Mangrove Park and Wetlands in Barangay Laih, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
According to the police, the 29-year-old man was visiting the park when he saw the crocodile. Believing it was just a plastic model, he climbed over the fence and entered the enclosure.
After a few moments, the crocodile charged at him, bit his leg and shoulder, and even dragged him into the water, tossing him around. Park visitors who witnessed the attack were left screaming in fear.
Authorities said there were staff watching over the park, but the man’s sudden action caught everyone off guard. Police also mentioned that the man may have a mental condition, which could have influenced his risky behavior.
“Nagpasyal siya sa area then nakita niya yung crocodile, in-expect niya na laruan lang. Pumunta siya sa bakod ng crocodile, pumasok siya, tapos nakagat siya ng crocodile,” Siay MPA PSSgt. Joel Sajolga said.
Gerry Berug Bautista, a Facebook user, shared the video on social media, showing the terrifying moment when the crocodile grabbed the man. Fortunately, the police, the municipal disaster rescue team, and the crocodile’s caretaker quickly worked together to save him.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with multiple wounds and a fractured bone. Despite the injuries, the man is now in stable condition and continuing to recover.
“Okay naman siya at naisugod sa ospital kanina, pero may sugat siya sa kanyang binti at balikat,” witness Jonalyn Vidad said.
Investigators are looking into the full details of the incident to strengthen safety measures in the park and avoid similar accidents.
The incident shows the importance of how important it is to stay cautious around wildlife and always following safety rules, even in places designed for public enjoyment.
