LRT FREE RIDE – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced this initiative on Tuesday to mark this year’s Labor Day.
In a video message on Tuesday, President Bongbong Marcos announced that there will be free rides for commuters in celebration of Labor Day. According to his order, commuters may enjoy free rides at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 from April 30 to Labor Day on May 3.

According to Marcos, this initiative is aimed at recognizing the significant contribution of workers to the economy of the country.
“Nais kong sabihin sa lahat ng ating mga commuter ay inutos ko na para magbigay ng ating kaunting parangal sa ating mga manggagawa dito sa ngayon nasa – kasama sa Labor Day Celebration ay maging libre ang sakay sa MRT 3, LRT 1 and 2,” Marcos Jr. said in a video message.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) issued a reminder on the proper payment of wages for employees for Labor Day. The pay rules were released according to Labor Advisory No. 04, series of 2025, signed by the Labor Sec. Bienvenido, Laguasma.
Labor Day is a regular holiday, which means all non-essential work and classes are suspended on the indicated date.
The regular holiday computation in the Philippines:
- If a worker did not work on a regular holiday, he/she will still receive a full salary on the said day.
- If a worker worked for eight (8) hours on a regular holiday, the worker is entitled to a “Double Pay”. It means that the worker will get twice (2) his/her basic salary, which is computed by adding the basic wage and the cost of living allowance (COLA).
- If a worker worked on overtime on a regular holiday, aside from the Double Pay, the worker is entitled to an extra pay that is equivalent to 30% of his/her daily rate for every hour of overtime work.
- If a worker’s rest day or dayoff falls on a regular holiday and he/she reported to duty, he/she is entitled for a Double Pay plus or on top of an equivalent of 30% of the said 200% salary for the day.
- If the worker worked overtime on a rest day which is a regular holiday, he/she is entitled to a total sum of a Double Pay or 200% salary for the day, 30% of the said Double Pay, and another 30% for every hour of overtime.
