POPE FRANCIS – The funeral of the late pontiff was announced, and here are some clips of him in an open casket from the Vatican.
The death of the Catholic church pontiff, Pope Francis, has brought immense sadness to thousands of people. He was hospitalized for weeks, and weeks after he was discharged, he returned to the hands of his maker. He died at the age of 88.
In a previous article, the pope’s cause of death, according to his death certificate, was a stroke that led to a coma and caused his heart to fail. His final public appearance was on Easter Sunday, a day before his death.
The late pontiff will lie in state inside St. Peter’s Basilica for three days ahead of his funeral. He was laid inside a simple wooden coffin as per his last wish, and his funeral will be on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.
As per the post, “Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside at the funeral Mass, which will be concelebrated by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests from across the globe.”
“The Eucharistic celebration will conclude with the Ultima commendatio and the Valedictio, marking the beginning of the Novemdiales, or nine days of mourning and Masses for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul,” it added.
In a post, clips of the late pontiff in an open casket were shared by the Vatican. The College of Cardinals and over 20,000 faithful were with the pope when he was transferred to St. Peter’s Basilica, where he will lie in state until the eve of Friday.
The pope will then be taken to St. Peter’s Basilica and to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for entombment.
