Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Endorsing 12 Senatorial Candidates for May 2025 Midterm Polls
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President responded to allegations that her endorsement of her senatorial bets is supposedly a “political move”.
The May 2025 Midterm Elections are fast approaching and most political teams are on a double team campaigning to the people. There are also incumbent officials of the government who have their own set of senatorial bets.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who just returned to the Philippines early this month is one of the government officials who have her own set of senatorial bets. She recently endorsed Senator Imee Marcos.
Vice Pres. Duterte endorsed Sen. Imee Marcos through the viral “ITIM” campaign ad. The campaign material where the Vice President could be heard saying that black is the current color of the country due to hunger and criminality elicited different reactions from the netizens online.
Sen. Imee Marcos denied that Vice Pres. Duterte’s endorsement was a reward. It is no secret to the public that she and Duterte are friends. She also led the Senate Foreign Relations committee probe on the arrest of the former President.
Aside from Sen. Imee Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also endorses Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar, the daughter of Manny Villar, and the PDP Laban senatorial bets. According to her, her senatorial bets share a common vision of a “peaceful and prosperous Philippines”.
Recently, during her visit in Cebu, the Vice President was asked about her endorsement of her senatorial bets in the May 2025 Midterm Elections. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Vice President visited the province to thank the supporters of her family.
There are lawmakers who claim that Vice Pres. Duterte’s endorsements of some Senate candidates is allegedly a “political move” meant to influence her impeachment trial. The Vice President responded to it.
“[Ang] nag-trigger ng paglabas ko ay ang ginawa nila kay Pangulong Duterte at ang ginawa nila na injustice,” the Vice President said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that it was former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who asked her to campaign for the PDP Laban senatorial candidates on his behalf. Her endorsement of Sen. Imee Marcos and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar is her own decision which FPRRD was not informed.
Previously, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s partner Honeylet Avanceña claimed that Duterte wants to tell the people to forget him if they forget his PDP Laban.
