This is what Vice Ganda shared about ratings from free TV and viewership from online platforms.
In a live stream, Vice Ganda explains how they play with their segments through the feedback they get from free TV and online platforms.
Times have definitely changed. We can now watch whatever we want, anytime and anywhere, and this is made possible with technology. There are a lot of online platforms and services available now to watch your favorite shows and series.
This is also one of the reasons why most of the programs we used to watch on TV exclusively can now be watched on phones, tablets, and laptops as long as there’s an internet connection. Among these is the ABS-CBN noontime show It’s Showtime.
The Kapamilya noontime show is available on various platforms and, at the same time, airing on the GMA main channel. To recall, it was last year when Showtime started airing on GMA. It was a historical collaboration.
The show is doing well in the ratings and is a trending topic online. However, just recently, Vice Ganda revealed that being a trending topic online does not translate to a good TV ratings performance. This is the reason why they constantly change their segments. Just like a game, they have to know how it is played both on free TV and online and find the equilibrium between these two.
“Sorry. Yung maganda ang review sa ibang platform. Pero hindi siya nagta-translate sa ratings sa free TV. E, ang ratings po, hindi nakabase sa taas ng viewership online o mga nanonood digitally,” the Showtime main host said.
Sometimes, they also don’t know what to do, as there are segments that are doing well on free TV but not online, and some are performing well online but not on free TV. And this is where advertisers and sponsorships get in. According to Vice, advertisers shell out money based on ratings from free TV.
The superstar shared, “It’s all about ratings. Kasi without ratings, hindi kami makakakuha ng sponsors. Yun ang truth dun.”
