2 Construction Workers in Laguna Die After Scaffolding Collapsed at Construction Site
Two construction workers died after part of a construction site in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Santa Rosa, Laguna suddenly collapsed.
On the morning of April 13, 2025 (Sunday), the workers, aged 29 and 42, were pouring cement on the second floor of the building when the structure collapsed. It is believed that they were buried under construction debris, according to initial reports from regional police.
Personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Santa Rosa City Disaster Risk Reduction Office were immediately dispatched to the area to conduct retrieval operations.

The reports clarified that the collapse involved a section of scaffolding, not part of the structure of the new shopping mall under construction. While a video from the scene shows the mall under construction, it does not capture the collapsed scaffolding.
“Nagcollapse po yung scafolding na pinagtutungtungan ng dalawang trabahador, nagbubuhos kasi sila noon, tapos ‘yun din po yung nagcollapse at kasama sila sa bumagsak. Hindi pa natin masabing (patay) dinala namin sa ospital para doctor ang mag-declare. Sa part po ng kapulisan on going ang investigation,” Police Lt. Colonel Benson Pimentel said.
The search and rescue operation are still ongoing, with authorities continuing their efforts to locate the missing workers.
Eventually, the two workers were successfully rescued and brought to the hospital. They were found by the police and the disaster risk management team around 4:00 PM.
Initial investigations revealed that the scaffolding they were standing on collapsed suddenly while they were pouring cement, causing part of the second floor to fall as well. Authorities have yet to confirm if the workers survived, but they were rushed to the hospital for further medical evaluation.
The police emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and the exact cause of the collapse is being thoroughly examined.
