On Wednesday night, April 15, 2026, one of two robbery suspects died in an encounter with the police authorities while trying to escape.

According to authorities, the suspects were involved in back-to-back robberies of two convenience stores in San Juan, Batangas. The incidents happened in Barangays Laiya Aplaya and Nagsaulay, where the suspects, riding a motorcycle, reportedly took around P170,000 in cash.

Store employees immediately asked for help, prompting the police to launch a dragnet operation to track down the suspects. Their escape route was quickly identified, leading officers to set up checkpoints in nearby areas.

The suspects were later spotted along Tiaong-Lipa Road. When police tried to stop them, the situation suddenly turned dangerous. Instead of surrendering, the suspects allegedly opened fire at the officers, which led to a brief but intense exchange of gunfire.

During the encounter, one of the suspects was hit in the head. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The other suspect, who was driving the motorcycle, was wounded after being hit in the body.

Despite his injuries, the driver attempted to flee and led police on a short chase that reached the town of San Antonio. He was eventually caught and taken into custody.

The authorities recovered a firearm loaded with ammunition, along with cash and other items believed to be connected to the robberies. Initial reports revealed that the suspects were residents of Laguna.

The injured suspect is currently being treated in the hospital and will face charges once he recovers. Authorities continue to remind the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar incidents.
