Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Responds To Pres. Bongbong Marcos “Glad I could help” Answer
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos misunderstood his duty and the sarcasm in her remark when she thanked him.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is detained in the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands for around three (3) weeks now. The confirmation of her charges is scheduled on September 23.
Duterte made his initial appearance before the ICC pre-trial chamber last March 15. Duterte was represented by former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea as his legal counsel while he stayed at the detention facility.
Currently, Duterte is under a regular detention inside the Hague Penitentiary Institution after he was released from the hospital wing of the ICC detention facility where he was monitored for several days. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is currently in The Hague to set the legal team of her father.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte immediately flew to The Hague following the arrest of her father in Manila. According to her, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is confident that he has “no case” to answer before the ICC.
The Philippine government and Pres. Bongbong Marcos was intensely criticized over “surrendering” Duterte to the foreign court. Many Duterte allies and supporters claimed it was betrayal to the Filipino people and the sovereignty of the Philippines as a country.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed she has Pres. Bongbong Marcos to thank for her father-daughter relationship with the former President now. According to the Vice President, she and her father have mended ties and can now talk about life and their family.
Duterte said that all legal matters are discussed between FPRRD and his lawyers and they only talk about life and family. According to her, it is sad that the mending of ties between her and the former President has to happen inside the ICC but she feels blessed about it and thankful to PBBM.
According to the Vice President, former Pres. Duterte was always busy to the country when she was growing up. On the statement of gratitude of Vice Pres. Duterte, the President expressed his gladness — “Glad I could help,” he said.
However, based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos might have misunderstood her statement and his duty. She stressed that it was sarcasm and his duty is to the country and not to mend personal relationships among families.
“Hindi niya siguro naiintindihan na ang duty and obligation niya ay para sa bayan, hindi para ayusin ang mga personal na problema ng mga pamilya. The sarcasm was lost on him,” the Vice President stressed.
Meanwhile, previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte shared that she told her father about their family’s unity now amid his ICC trial. The Vice President also revealed that her brothers, Paolo and Sebastian, are planning to visit their father in The Hague.
