RODRIGO DUTERTE – Vice President Sara Duterte said the former President wants the world to know that everything he did was for the Philippines.

The war on drugs campaign of the Duterte administration was undeniably its most popular move. It hooked not only the attention of the Filipino populace but as well as other countries and foreign entities like the International Criminal Court. Undeniably, the campaign is surrounded by several issues.

Duterte administration’s war on drugs campaign is linked to thousands of deaths. Currently, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is under a regular detention in the ICC detention facility in The Hague following his release from its hospital wing.

The former Philippine President was taken to a hospital for medical checks before he was admitted inside the detention facility. He was also monitored for several days in the hospital wing of the Hague Penitentiary Institution before he was released.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte immediately followed former Pres. Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands following his arrest. According to the Vice President, she hopes to be able to set the legal team of her father before she returns to the country.

Duterte’s legal team is led by British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman. His lead counsel previously confirmed that they are “working on” Duterte’s interim release bid. He is also confident about their jurisdictional argument and he really hopes that they will be able to convince the judges that the ICC allegedly has no jurisdiction in the country.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte removed the ICC jurisdiction in the Philippines in 2019. However, according to the foreign court, there are cases that have transpired when the country was still a member of the Rome Statute.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke about the former President. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, her father wants the legal proceedings to take as quickly as possible as he fears dying during his ICC detention.

The former President is currently 80 years old. Based on the report, the Vice President also relayed her father’s message.

“Everything I did, I did for my country. (I don’t know) whether that statement is acceptable or not, but I want it out to the world,” Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said referring to the former President’s statement.

Previously, former presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo claimed that if former Pres. Duterte dies during his ICC detention, it may lead to VP Sara’s presidency.
