In an Instagram post, Kitty Duterte penned a loving and heartfelt birthday message for former president Rodrigo Duterte.
On March 11, former president Rodrigo Duterte was arrested after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant of arrest against him. The arrest was related to crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his administration’s war against drugs.
Weeks after, his partner, Honeylet Avanceña, with their daughter, arrived at The Hague. His partner and daughter, Kitty Duterte, were there to spend time with him on his birthday. He just turned 80 years old, and in an Instagram post, Kitty penned a heartfelt letter for her father, who is currently in detention.
“A man of very few words, but the most actions. My father has always been a force to be reckoned with. Even in his sunset days, he poses the biggest threat because of his bold heroism and patriotism. He is indeed a man—a father of the people. His love goes beyond his commitment and devotion to the people,” Kitty wrote.
She reflected on her childhood, where she vividly remembered a lot of things about her father, who was not just a father to her but also a father to everyone. She once struggled as an envious girl regarding her father’s devotion to public service. It was only when she grew up that she finally understood everything.
She gained a deeper understanding of her FPRRD’s role as a leader and protector of the people and admitted to having developed the same compassion. A new perspective has shown her what he has been trying to do for his countrymen.
Kitty vowed to uphold her father’s legacy and expressed her hope for his release.
