The ICC reportedly released an arrest warrant against Duterte over the allegations surrounding his administration’s war on drugs. He was arrested last March 11 and was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai on the same day that the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested him.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte flew to The Hague, Netherlands to support former Pres. Duterte in his ICC battle. According to her, she is the only one in their family with a Schengen Visa and all the other members are still applying for a Visa.

VP Sara previously revealed that her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, is coming to The Hague whether or not she will be allowed to visit the elder Duterte. According to the Vice President, former Pres. Duterte no longer wants his children to come to The Hague as he jested that unless they are willing to join him inside the detention facility.

Duterte and Elizabeth Zimmerman’s marriage was annulled, thus, his next-of-kin visiting privileges rest on his children. Recently, a meet-and-greet of the Duterte supporters in the Netherlands was held and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed her father’s desire to return to the Philippines.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte even revealed that she warned former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte that he might die like Ninoy Aquino Jr. if insists to return to the Philippines. Aquino was shot upon his arrival at the then-Manila International Airport in August 1983 after a three-year exile in U.S.

Ninoy Aquino

Aquino was a staunch critic of the administration of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is really determined to go home to the Philippines regardless of having a similar fate with the late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino Jr.

“At sinabi niya sa akin, sabi nya, ‘Kung ganyan ang kapalaran ko, then so be it. Basta lang mauwi ako sa Pilipinas,'” she said referring to the older Duterte’s statement.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that former Pres. Duterte “feels better now” and is confident that he has “no case” to answer at the ICC.
