Road Altercation in Quezon City Leads to Shooting Leaving 1 Dead, 1 Injured
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A road altercation in Quezon City turned deadly after a driver was fatally shot following a minor collision.
On Thursday evening (March 21, 2025), an intense road at Tandang Sora Avenue in Barangay Old Balara Quezon City, took the life of a truck driver and left his passenger injured.
The victim, a 42-year-old pickup truck driver, died on the spot, while his 51-year-old passenger sustained critical injuries. According to the passenger’s son, who was also in the vehicle, they were heading home to Marilao, Bulacan, from Antipolo City, Rizal, when the collision happened.
The two vehicles, a pickup truck and a closed van, reportedly brushed against each other, leading to an argument between the drivers. Witnesses said that after the initial confrontation, the van driver blocked the pickup truck’s path.
“Nagkagitgitan po. Una po kasi kaming pumasok sa lane. Tapos ginitgit po kami na ito. Tapos iyong driver po namin, nagalit, ginitgit niya rin. Tapos umabante kami nang kaunti, tapos hinarang na po kami puting sasakyan,” the pickup truck’s passenger said.
The situation escalated when the van driver stepped out, punched the pickup truck driver, and then fired multiple shots at him.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the pickup truck driver was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Authorities recovered seven bullet casings from the site. The suspect, who was later identified as a police officer, voluntarily surrendered to the Quezon City Police District Station 6.
Meanwhile, the victims’ families are demanding justice, questioning how a law enforcer could resort to such extreme violence over a minor road altercation.

The victim’s family hopes that authorities will take quick action to ensure justice is served. “Dapat po makulong. Pulis, gagawin iyong gano’n? Parang pumatay lang po siya ng hayop, manok e’. Pagbaril, sabay lakad lang, sakay, tapos alis,” the passenger said.
