11 House Members Compose Prosecution Team for VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
PROSECUTION TEAM – A prosecutor in the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte believes that their team is ready as they meet weekly to prepare.
Previously, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte said that they are ready to fight on the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to him, his sister is “unbothered” and she has a strong legal team.
The legal counsels of the Vice President include their father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and her father-in-law, Lucas Carpio Jr. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s former spokesman, Atty. Michael Poa, also joined the legal team of the Vice President.
Some House members even had suspicions that Poa was added into the legal team to allegedly stop him from testifying against his former boss. The Vice President is mum on the issues surrounding her impeachment.
Amid the calls of many Filipinos and several known personalities in politics for an immediate start of the impeachment trial, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero refuses to start the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to him, no amount of signatures can convince him to convene an impeachment court while the Senate is one recess. He stressed that it is against the law.
There are calls for Escudero to call for a special session but the Senate President don’t see a need for it. He stressed that the Senate has an approved legislative calendar that it follows and the lawmakers will discuss the matter when the session resumes in June.
On the side of the prosecution team for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, one of their members expressed her belief that their team is ready. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro said that they meet every week to prepare the articles of impeachment.
“I believe that the prosecution team is ready. Weekly meron kaming meeting, deliberation, preparation about the articles of impeachment that we will be presenting to the impeachment court once the trial commences,” the Batangas Representative said.
Based on the report, the prosecution team for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte includes 11 members of the House of Representatives. One of them is Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro who wants to be the in-charge on the part regarding the alleged misuse of public funds.
According to Luistro, the prosecution team is planning to tap private prosecutors for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. However, they have not yet finalized on it, thus, they cannot disclose it.
Previously, Manila Rep. Joel Chua claimed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte can be required to return the misused public funds.
