Female Camper’s Bag Stolen by Cyclist, Turns Out to Be an Old Acquaintance
A female camper’s bag was stolen by a cyclist in Barangay Socorro, Quezon City, and it turned out that the suspect was an old acquaintance.
The incident, which was caught on CCTV, showed the thief grabbing the unattended bag and quickly riding away.
The victim identified as Hazel Linda had just stepped out to buy something from a nearby store and left her bag outside her friend’s house. Inside were important belongings, including her wallet, IDs, and camping gear worth around P50,000.
“Papunta kasi ako sa bahay ng friend ko kasi aalis kami, magka-camping nga kami, outing ganon, nagpunta ko doon dala ko lahat nung gamit ko ‘yung nasa duffel bag. ‘Yung pampasok ko kinabukasan lahat dala ko, camping essentials ko,” Linda said.
The female camper had packed everything she needed for the trip, including clothes for the next day. In just a few seconds, the bag was gone.
At first, the woman thought her friend was playing a prank on her. But when she realized the bag was really missing, she panicked. Hoping to track down the thief, she posted the CCTV footage online. To her surprise, her friends recognized the man in the video and helped identify him.
With the help of barangay officials, she went to the suspect’s house the next day. That’s when she discovered that the thief was actually someone she knew from ten years ago. He even messaged her on social media, sending a selfie along with the stolen items.
Eventually, the thief returned her wallet first and continued giving her updates about her stolen things. She joked about how the thief kept her informed like a friend would. Eventually, some of her belongings were returned, and she decided not to file a complaint against him.
“Nag-selfie pa siya. Kasi ang nangyari noon pagdating ko dito kilala ko pala siya, 10 years ago, nakita raw niya ‘yung ID ko, kilala niya ako. Una niyang sinauli ‘yung wallet ko. Natawa nga ako, sabi ko sana all updated. Kasi ina-update ako nung magnanakaw diba. Sana all,” she added.
