Man Stabbed After Stopping Near Drinking Session in Rizal
A 23-year-old man suffered a deep wound on his face after being attacked near a drinking session in Rodriguez, Rizal.
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the victim and his companion were on their way to buy food when their motorcycle broke down near a group of men drinking. As they tried to fix the motorcycle, one of the drinkers jokingly suggested blowing up the vehicle with a lighter.
It led to an argument between the two groups, which resulted into a fistfight. Based on the police investigation, the suspect ran inside his house, grabbed a balisong and repeatedly attempted to stab the victim.
“Pumasok doon sa bahay nila kumuha ng balisong at ilang beses niyang inundayan ng saksak itong biktima natin, at tinamaan nga sa mukha. Itong area malayo ito, nandoon na to sa area na may bundok na,” Rodriguez MPS chief of police PLtCol. Paul Sabulao said.
One of the attacks landed on the victim’s face, leaving a serious wound. The incident took place in a remote area near the mountains, making it difficult to get immediate help.
The suspect claimed that the men intentionally stopped near his house to provoke them. He also insisted that he acted in self-defense, saying he was forced to fight back and lost control in the heat of the moment.
The victim’s older sister expressed deep anger over what happened, saying her brother would have to live with a permanent scar for the rest of his life. She also stated that their family would pursue legal action against the suspect.
The suspect is now in police custody and is facing charges of frustrated homicide. Meanwhile, the victim is recovering, and his facial wound has been stitched up.
