Students in Davao City Falsely Claim Kidnapping to Avoid Parents’ Wrath
Two students in Davao City skipped class and falsely claimed they were kidnapped to avoid their parents’ scolding.
“Cutting classes” means skipping school or missing lessons on purpose without permission from teachers or parents. Students do this for different reasons, like wanting to hang out with friends, avoiding a tough subject, or just not feeling like going to class.
Schools don’t allow this because it can cause students to fall behind in their studies. If someone skips class too often, they might get in trouble or struggle to keep up with their schoolwork.
Recently, authorities in Davao City have clarified claims circulating on social media about two students being kidnapped by a white van. After a thorough investigation, it was revealed that the alleged abduction never happened.
Initially, the students reported that they were forcibly taken by unknown individuals near a mall on the night of February 19, 2025. However, upon reviewing the details, the police discovered that the students had actually skipped class and went to a mall instead.
To make their story more believable, the students even inflicted minor injuries on themselves. They wanted their parents to believe that they were kidnapped rather than admit they had cut classes.
However, their plan fell apart when they were found early Thursday morning inside a convenience store after responding to a text from their teacher.
According to the Davao City Police, the students were afraid of being scolded for not going home on time. Out of fear, they came up with the false kidnapping story, hoping to avoid punishment.
The social workers will now assess and monitor the students to ensure their well-being. Authorities also remind the public to be responsible when sharing unverified information, as false reports can cause unnecessary panic.
