Manny Pacquiao Closes the Book on Politics, Reignites Boxing Flame at 46
MANNY PACQUIAO – Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao is trading the podium for the ring as he focuses solely on boxing once again.
Manny Pacquiao, regarded as one of the most legendary names in boxing, has officially turned away from politics to fully dedicate himself once more to the sport that brought him international fame. Following years of balancing government duties and his career in the ring, the Filipino superstar is staging a full-scale comeback at the age of 46.
“Right now, the book of politics is closed,” Manny told The Associated Press on Tuesday in Los Angeles. “It’s not even in my mind. I’m focusing on my career as a boxer again.”

Manny Pacquiao’s highly awaited return is set for July 19 in Las Vegas, where he will challenge WBC welterweight titleholder Mario Barrios. This marks his first fight since 2021 and presents a historic opportunity to become the oldest fighter to ever win the welterweight crown — a move that would further cement his already legendary status.
As a former world champion across eight weight divisions, Pacquiao put his boxing career on pause to enter the political sphere. He served as a Philippine senator from 2016 to 2022 and even launched a presidential campaign, finishing third in the race. Earlier this year, he sought a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections but ended up placing 18th. That recent defeat became the turning point, leading him to refocus his energy on boxing — this time with no distractions from politics.
“I can still do my job in boxing,” Pacman said. “I’m not done yet. The fire, the determination, the eagerness to train and work hard, it’s still there. It’s amazing.”

Currently training in Los Angeles under the guidance of longtime trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao appears reenergized. He has expressed how much he missed the sport — from the physical intensity of training to the promotional demands that come with being a top-tier athlete.
After being away from the ring for four years, Pacquiao is not just aiming for a farewell performance — he’s in it for the long haul. Fueled by the same passion and drive that built his global reputation, he is determined to prove his story in boxing isn’t over yet.
