Man Holds Woman Hostage in Recto, Surrenders After Receiving His Unpaid Salary

Man Involved in Hostage Situation Surrenders After Receiving Unpaid Salary

A man armed with a knife took a woman hostage inside a printing shop in Recto but later surrendered after receiving his unpaid salary.

On Tuesday afternoon (February 18, 2025), tension gripped the Recto area near Avenida in Manila after a desperate man took a woman hostage.

The police authorities had been chasing the suspect due to a recent stabbing case he was allegedly involved in. However, the situation escalated when the man entered the printing shop to escape his pursuers and held a woman at knifepoint.

Unpaid Salary

According to the investigation, the suspect had gone to Recto to demand his unpaid salary of P20,000 from his former employer. He claimed that his employer refused to pay him, leading him to take a desperate act.

Sabi ko sa kaniya yumakap ka sa akin walang mangyayari sa iyo. Ibinaba niya yung kutsilyo and that’s it. Natapos nang maayos,” Guiagui said.

While being cornered by authorities, he requested to receive his salary and see his mother. For over an hour, police negotiated with the suspect, eventually convincing him to surrender peacefully.

Unpaid Salary

Authorities handed the suspect’s P20,000 salary to his mother as part of the negotiation. The suspect later explained at the police station that he had no intention of taking a hostage. He said he ran into the printing shop in a panic while trying to escape the officers chasing him.

Despite the peaceful resolution, the suspect faces charges of illegal detention, alarm and scandal, and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

Authorities commended the successful negotiation that prevented harm to the hostage and resolved the incident without violence. However, they reminded the public that actions like these could lead to serious legal consequences and urged individuals to resolve conflicts through lawful means.
