Motorcycle Rider Loses License After Superman Stunt on Marilaque Highway
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has pulled the license of a motorcycle rider who performed a superman stunt on Marilaque Highway.
Last January 26, 2025, the motorcycle rider identified as Rico Akmad Buyawan got into a terrible accident while pulling off a dangerous “Superman” stunt. The incident garnered various reactions from the online community.
Buyawan and moto vlogger John Louie Arguelles were racing and performing the Superman stunt, where riders lay flat on their bikes like they’re flying. Unfortunately, they got into an accident while pulling off a dangerous stunt.

Rico lost control while approaching a sharp curve. Both riders slammed into a road barrier, which injured bystanders. Sadly, Arguelles didn’t survive, leaving behind his three-year-old child.
Akmad was given a chance to explain himself, but after an investigation, the LTO decided he shouldn’t be on the road anymore. According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, having a driver’s license isn’t just a right, it’s a privilege.
“The driver’s license that the government is issuing to the motorists is a privilege that comes with a responsibility that those who would get it would observe road safety and be a responsible driver at all times,” said Mendoza.

It comes with the responsibility to follow the rules and prioritize safety, something Buyawan failed to do. Mendoza also hopes this serves as a wake-up call for other riders who think public roads are playgrounds for risky stunts.
“Magsilbing aral sana ito sa lahat ng ating mga kasamang motorista, lalo na ang mga motorcycle rider, na hindi tamang lugar ang mga pampublikong kalsada sa mga ganitong gawain,” he added.
As of this writing, it’s unclear if Buyawan will face more charges beyond losing his license. LTO clarifies that stunts like these have no place on public roads. They’re urging all riders to think twice and act responsibly to avoid tragedies like this.
