Barbie Hsu Passes Away in Japan Due to Influenza
Barbie Hsu – The beloved Taiwanese actress known for her role as San Chai in Meteor Garden, has passed away at 48.
On Monday (February 3, 2025), Barbie Hsu’s family confirmed the heartbreaking revealing that she died from pneumonia, which developed after she caught the flu while on a family trip to Japan during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Her sister, Dee Hsu, shared an emotional message about Barbie’s passing, expressing her gratitude for the precious moments they shared. She described Barbie as kind-hearted and thanked everyone for their concern.

Barbie’s death came after a sudden illness, and her sister will forever hold their bond close.
Hsu leaves behind her two young children, a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, as well as her husband, DJ Koo Jun-yup, a South Korean artist she married in 2022. Before this, she was married to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, with whom she co-parented her children.
Although Barbie had not acted in dramas since 2012, she made occasional public appearances, attending family events and social gatherings. She had also focused on her personal life, especially after her 2021 divorce, dedicating much of her time to raising her children.

The actress’s health had been a topic of concern in the past, as she had previously dealt with epilepsy and related complications.
Barbie Hsu was not only a talented actress but also a singer and TV host, with a career that spanned across various fields. She became a household name in Taiwan with her role in Meteor Garden and continued to inspire fans with her work in Mars and Summer’s Desire.
