Unsanitary Canteen Practice in China Alarms Parents

Unsanitary Canteen Practice in China Elicited Reactions Online

An unsanitary canteen practice at a school in Xinyu, Jiangxi, China has caused an alarm among parents and students.

Unsanitary food practices happen when food is handled, prepared, or stored in an unsafe way, which can lead to contamination and make people sick. One common issue is poor personal hygiene, like not washing hands before handling food, wearing dirty uniforms, or sneezing near meals.

A dirty cooking environment, with pests, mold, or food scraps left out, creates health hazards. Some food handlers also use expired or spoiled ingredients, which can lead to serious food poisoning.

Recently, a disturbing video from a middle school in China bothers the public after exposing questionable food preparation practices in the school canteen. The video elicited reactions from netizens.

The CCTV footage shows a worker wearing water boots stepping on food inside a bucket. Reports later confirmed that the contents of the bucket were ingredients meant for student meals.

The video raises concerns about hygiene and food safety in the school. Upon investigation, the Yushui District Education and Sports Bureau verified the authenticity of the footage. The worker identified as “Jian” was immediately dismissed from his position.

Along with him, the school’s principal and the head of the General Affairs Office were also removed from their posts as authorities took immediate action against those responsible for maintaining the canteen’s cleanliness.

The officials reassured the public that they would strictly enforce food safety standards to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Despite the unsanitary practice caught on camera, no reports of students falling ill due to the canteen’s food have been recorded. Parents, however, remain deeply concerned about the overall hygiene and safety of meals provided in the school, urging stricter monitoring and improved food handling procedures.
