Group of Men in Sta. Mesa, Manila Attacks 2 Minors

Two 17-year-old boys were assaulted by a group of men along Ramon Magsaysay Street in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

On early Friday morning (January 24, 2025), a group of men reported mauled two minors in Sta. Mesa, Manila. The incident was caught on camera. The footage shows the victims walking with three friends when a group of men crossed the street toward them.

Without warning, one of the attackers punched a boy wearing a white t-shirt. The group of friends scattered, but the aggressors chased another boy in a white sweatshirt. As he tried to flee, he tripped and was surrounded by the attackers, who continued to punch and kick him even as he lay on the ground.

The victim managed to get up and escape after the assailants left, but he sustained injuries to his face and body. A barangay official, Michael Garcia, described the boy’s injuries as severe, with bruises on his face, a cut on his mouth, and difficulty walking due to scrapes and wounds.

The incident is suspected to be linked to a gang-related conflict, as the attackers were reportedly known to the victims. However, Melinda Lacanaria, the mother of one victim, denied this claim.

Lacanaria stated that her son and his friends had just attended a classmate’s wake and were looking for food when the attack happened. She also mentioned that the attackers allegedly tried to steal the boys’ belongings.

After two hours of searching, one of the victims was found lying on the street, injured and in pain. He was taken to the police station for a medical examination, and his parents are preparing to file charges against the attackers, who remain at large.

The local barangay vowed to tighten security measures during nighttime hours and urged parents to monitor their children closely to prevent such incidents.
