House leaders respect the decision of the office of President Bongbong Marcos.
Office of the President (OP) of President Bongbong Marcos decides to reschedule the signing of the proposed 2025 budget.
This Friday, December 20, is supposed to be the schedule for the signing of the proposed 2025 budget. However, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin informed the public that this will not be pushed through as the assessment of the proposed budget is still ongoing led by the president himself, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
This is amid the loud buzz caused by some questionable cuts in the budget allocations of key departments which includes the Department of Education.
The Office of the President has yet to announce the new date for the signing but vowed that this will happen before the year ends. OP also confirmed that certain items in the budget bill will be vetoed.
On Monday, the president vowed that the slashed Php 10 billion by the bicameral conference committee from the Department of Education’s proposed 2025 budget will be restored.
House Assistant Majority Leader Jude Acidre and House Committee on Appropriations Vice Chairperson Raul Angelo Bongalon, who are both part of the bicam committee, respect the decision of the president and understand if wishes to exercise his veto power to veto parts of the general appropriations bill.
Senate leaders also respect the postponement with Sen. Grace Poe, chair of the Senate finance panel, saying that it is a “sign of a healthy democracy”.
On Wednesday, Marcos Jr. met with key officials of the Executive Department. He reviewed the 2025 national budget together with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, and NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.
This review is to ensure the “alignment with key development priorities” to the budget.
