Man Suffered Leg Injury After Visiting Fake Chiropractor
UNLICENSED PRACTITIONER – A man from Cagayan de Oro suffered a leg fracture after visiting a fake chiropractor for a home service.
A chiropractor is a healthcare professional who focuses on treating problems related to the muscles, joints, and spine. They specialize in manual therapies like adjustments or manipulations to help reduce pain and improve how the body moves.
Chiropractors believe that keeping the spine aligned is essential for overall health because it connects the nervous system to the rest of the body. When there are misalignments in the spine, they can cause pain or other health issues.
Becoming a chiropractor requires years of study. They complete a four-year doctoral program after undergraduate studies and must pass licensing exams to practice. It’s important to seek care from a licensed chiropractor to ensure safe and effective treatment, as improper techniques can sometimes lead to serious injuries.
Recently, a man named Leobert Mangubat Yurong experienced a painful leg fracture after attempting to receive chiropractic treatment from an unlicensed practitioner. The simple home service session turned into a nightmare as his condition worsened instead of improving.
Leobert, seeking relief from pain, decided to try the services of a chiropractor who visited his home. However, rather than feeling better, his pain escalated, and an X-ray revealed a serious leg fracture.
As a result, he faced medical bills that amounted to around P173,000 to treat the injury.
Dr. Rob Walcher, a licensed chiropractor, explained that the procedure performed on Leobert was not true chiropractic treatment, but rather a form of hilot, a traditional Filipino healing method.
He clarified that chiropractic services require years of formal training, typically eight years, and emphasized the dangers of seeking treatment from unlicensed individuals.
Dr. Walcher also advised the public to be cautious about hiring unqualified practitioners, as improper techniques can lead to severe injuries or even death.
The incident reminds us of the importance of checking qualifications before seeking medical care, particularly with alternative treatments.
