Pres. Bongbong Marcos Discourages Impeachment vs. VP Sara Duterte, Makabayan Bloc Says Its Against Constitution
Makabayan Bloc reacted to the statement of President Bongbong Marcos on the impeachment plan versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is currently surrounded by several issues and accusations due to several instances. The Vice President is being questioned regarding the utilization of the Confidential Funds of the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was the education secretary and the Office of the Vice President (OVP). However, she skipped several hearings.
The House of Representatives also made a P1.3 billion cut from the fund proposed by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office after she skipped the deliberations of the budget proposal of the OVP for 2025. It sparked disappointment among several House lawmakers and members.
Duterte is also currently being investigated with regards to her statement against Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The NBI issued a subpoena for Duterte following a “threat” on Marcos Jr. but she skipped the first schedule.
Recently, a member of the House of Representatives confirmed that an impeachment plan is on the works against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to ACT Teachers’ Party-List Representative France Castro, they are gathering signatures and she is confident that there is an enough number of people from the House who will support the impeachment rap.
However, Pres. Bongbong Marcos is against the impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte which he tagged as a waste of time. The President revealed that she sent a personal message to members of the House encouraging them not to push through with it. According to the Chief Executive, it is his opinion and VP Sara is “unimportant” in the big scheme.
Recently, the Makabayan Bloc reacted to the remarks of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives. Based on a report on GMA News, the party-lists’ group stressed that the statement of the President is a “brazen attempt to influence Congress” and it allegedly violates the provision in the Constitution regarding the separation of powers between the co-equal branches of the government.
“Such a move shows a weak leadership. In the presence of corruption, death threats and blatant disrespect of the House of Representatives, this is how the President behaves and stand(s)?” the Makabayan Bloc said.
Furthermore, based on the report, the Makabayan Bloc tagged the move of Pres. Bongbong Marcos as “undue executive interference” in the legislative department. According to the party-lists’ group, they are ready and preparing for the possible impeachment of the Vice President. They stressed that it is their duty to make sure that no official is above the law.
“Kung may sapat na batayan para sa impeachment, dapat itong ipagpatuloy alinsunod sa ating Konstitusyon,” Makabayan Bloc said.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has yet to react on the impeachment plan against her in the House. Previously, amid the issues surrounding her daughter, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his confidence that VP Sara can handle it.
