PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update for Saturday (November 16, 2024)
PAGASA reported that Typhoon Pepito has intensified and nears the super typhoon category while Ofel further weakens.
On Saturday (November 16, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Typhoon Pepito and Tropical Storm Ofel will affect the country’s weather conditions.
PAGASA reported that Typhoon Pepito has intensified and nears super typhoon category threatening Eastern Visayas and Southern Luzon. It was last spotted 220 km east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

Pepito has maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 215 kph. It is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes Saturday night or Sunday early morning (November 17).
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ofel was last spotted at 240 km northwest of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gustiness of up to 90 kph moving north-northeastward slowly.
Ofel re-entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday night (November 15). It is set to emerge over the sea east of Taiwan by Sunday early morning.

“Ofel is forecast to further weaken due to the increasingly unfavorable environment and interaction with the mountainous terrain of Taiwan, possibly downgrading into a remnant low tomorrow or earlier,” PAGASA said.
Rough coastal water condition is expected over the seaboard of Batanes. The seaboard of the Babuyan Islands and the northern seaboards of mainland Cagayan and Ilocos Norte will have moderate seas,

“Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions,” the agency added.
The weather bureau also advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides.
