WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspensions due to the effects of Typhoon Ofel.

As of PAGASA’s latest bulletin, Typhoon Ofel, also known internationally as Usagi, was last spotted around 215 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela. The storm brings sustained winds of up to 165 kph and gusts reaching 205 kph.

PAGASA also predicts that Ofel may further intensify, potentially reaching super typhoon status. Currently, it is forecast to make landfall along Cagayan’s eastern coast or northern Isabela later on Thursday afternoon.

Class Suspensions

After landfall, the typhoon is expected to shift northward, brushing past Batanes on Friday (November 15) and potentially veering northeast by Saturday (November 16).

Residents in affected areas are also advised to stay updated on weather advisories, as the storm could lead to severe flooding, landslides, and storm surges of up to 3 meters along coastal communities.

As the typhoon continues to strengthen, several areas have issued alerts and implemented safety measures, including class suspensions in both public and private schools.

Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)

  • Abra: Lacub, Licuan-Baay (public schools only), Malibcong – all levels
  • Apayao Province: Preschool to senior high school
  • Ifugao: Aguinaldo – preschool to senior high school
  • Mountain Province: Paracelis – preschool to senior high school

PAGASA’s alerts include Signal Nos. 4, 3, 2, and 1 for various areas, signaling a high risk of flooding, landslides, and coastal storm surges. Residents should stay vigilant as Ofel tracks northwestward, potentially intensifying further and impacting northern Luzon’s coastal regions.
