Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Reacts to Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s Call for her to Leave Politics

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President reacted to the call of her father, former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to exit politics.

In the Philippine political arena, the Duterte family is one of those with several family members that hold government positions. Currently, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s sons, Paolo Duterte and Baste Duterte, are the current Davao City First District Representative and the Davao City Mayor respectively.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s elder daughter, Inday Sara, is the current vice president of the Philippines. Previously, former Pres. Duterte expressed his call to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to exit politics as fast as she can. According to him, it is already a rare occurence that he and his daughter got the opportunity to be the country’s president and vice president and they should be thankful about it.

The call of the former President for his daughter to exit the political scenario came amid several issues and accusations against the Vice President. She is being urged to account the P112.5 million Confidential Funds of the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was the education secretary.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is also being questioned regarding the utilization of funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP). However, the Vice President snubbed several House hearings. In one of the hearings, she also refused to take an oath and left the probe early.

A chief accountant of DepEd also claimed that she received envelopes with cash during the term of Duterte in the education department. Previously, another former official of DepEd also made the said claim.

Recently, amid the issues and the accusations as well as the call of her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to leave politics as fast as she can, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recalled that her father encouraged her to keep on joining politics then.

“Pagkatapos niya akong sinabi na tumakbo ako nang tumakbo, tumakbo akong mayor, tumakbo akong vice mayor, sabihan niya ako no’n,” the Vice President said.

Meanwhile, based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte admitted that there will come a time when she will not join politics anymore. According to her, she also does not want to engage in politics anymore but she has to be the vice president for everyone after she was voted by 32.2 million Filipinos.

“Darating din tayo doon na hindi na ako sasali sa politics. Ako man gusto ko rin. Ang problema ko is that I need to answer to 32.2 million Filipinos who gave confidence and trust for me to become the vice president of everyone,” he said.

Based on the report, Duterte stressed that we have no knowledge about what might happen next and “we can only plan but it’s always God’s purpose that shall prevail”. She stressed that we must keep on planning but there must be a faith in God.

Previously, the House panel said they may file a case against Vice Pres. Duterte over the Confidential Funds. The House panel stressed that it was the money of the people.
