Pasig Plant Theft Engages in Chase with Barangay Officials
A Pasig plant theft was caught on camera as Barangay Dela Paz officials in Pasig City chased him for stealing plants.
A CCTV in Pasig City captured an intense chase between barangay officials and a man suspected of stealing plants. The incident took place on Sterly Street, where a barangay officer noticed a man on a bicycle, apparently in the act of taking plants from the area.
In the CCTV footage, an officer steps out of his patrol vehicle and tries to flag down the cyclist. However, the man didn’t stop, prompting the officer to push the bike to make him stop. Both of them fell to the ground, but the suspect managed to run off, leading to a brief chase.
The other barangay officers joined in the pursuit, eventually catching up with the suspect on Amang Rodriguez Avenue. Additional CCTV footage from Camia Street showed the man making a quick U-turn before stopping his bicycle to hurriedly stack the plants he had taken onto it.
Thanks to the barangay’s CCTV system, which includes 322 cameras, operators were able to catch suspicious activity in real time. According to Barangay Councilor Jay Santiago, these cameras have greatly contributed to maintaining peace and order in the area.
“Yung 322 cameras natin, talagang sobrang laking tulong sa peace and order,” Santiago said.
The officers retrieved the stolen plants and the bicycle, which is being investigated to see if it, too, was stolen. The 25-year-old suspect, a resident of a nearby barangay, refused to make any comments on camera but admitted that he intended to sell the plants he had taken.
The suspect is now in the custody of the Pasig City Police Station as authorities continue their investigation.
