Aside from being a prominent name in the Philippine entertainment industry, Vilma is also a famous figure in politics. She has served her fellow Batanguenos for so many years already.
For the 2025 elections, Vilma decided to return to the political arena. She filed her certificate of candidacy for governor of Batangas.

The veteran actress was joined by her son Kapamilya TV host Luis Manzano who filed his COC for vice governor while his younger brother Ryan Recto filed his COC for representative. With this, people expressed different reactions. Some criticized the family for running together.
In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, Vilma Santos was asked about political dynasty. “Alam mo, sa totoo lang, it cannot be always ito na lang tayo nang ito. Yung sistema natin sa pulitika,” the actress-politician said.
She explained why she wanted to have her children as her running companion. Vilma said that she needed people who she could trust and work with effectively.

The veteran actress also said that she does not mind what other people will say because it is up to the public to vote for who they want. She stressed that she is comfortable working with her children and as they belong to the younger generation, she needs their fresh mindset.
“Alam mo ang ibig kong sabihin? To get the GenZ, millennials ngayon. Kasi sila ang 65 percent ngayon. Itong may mga energy, e. Yung fresh perspective, how to go about and deal with young people,” she said.
As a senior, Vilma Santos said that she knows what to do, she is already aware of the programs that she will do. However, she needs new blood and the public also needs this.
She also stressed that they are not appointed officials as it is the people who will vote for them.
