Lady Netizen Shares Struggle w/ Daily Cost of Managing Mental Illness
A lady netizen opened up about her struggles with mental illness, sharing the huge amount she spends each day just to feel normal.
Recently, Jamie Delos Reyes, a Facebook user, revealed that she spends over P500 daily on her medications to maintain a functional brain. Her post quickly gained attention and elicited comments online.
Jamie listed the medications that make up her daily expenses. She pays P279 for Concerta, which helps with ADHD, P62.50 for Jovia, an antidepressant, P71.25 for Lamictal, a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder, and P138 for Serotia, another medication that stabilizes mood and aids sleep.
When added together, her total comes to P575.75 each day, and she faces this cost year-round. She stressed that mental illness is a real disease, not just a state of mind. Like any other illness, it requires proper treatment, often including medication.
“365 days a year, every year. For as long as I live. That’s because mental illness is a disease, not a state of mind or moral failure. Like any disease, it requires a treatment plan, which often includes medication,” Reyes said.
Jamie’s main message to others dealing with similar issues is not to blame themselves. She reassured her followers that having a mental health condition does not mean they are weak or failures, it is a serious health issue that deserves attention.
Reyes encourages everyone to show compassion towards themselves, especially when support from friends and family may not always be there. Her experience emphasizes the need for understanding and kindness towards those living with mental health challenges.
By sharing her journey, the lady netizen hopes to inspire others to seek help and treat themselves with care, reminding us all that mental health matters just as much as physical health.
“And you deserve the same level of compassion and care we give to people who are sick.
I hope you treat yourself with gentle compassion even when the people around you won’t or can’t,” she added.
