Grade 7 Student Faces Trouble for Firing Gun Inside School Campus
A Grade 7 student from Negros Oriental High School in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental found firing a gun inside his classroom.
On October 11, 2024 (Friday), a 12-year-old high school student from Negros Oriental found himself in trouble after firing a gun inside the school campus. The incident happened around noon, causing alarm, though thankfully, no one was hurt.
The local police received the report at about 12:42 p.m. Upon investigating, they discovered that the student had taken a firearm from his bag and fired it through the classroom window. Officers recovered a .45 caliber pistol and a single empty shell from the scene.
Currently, the police are looking into how the student gained access to the gun. They believe the firearm might have come from one of the child’s relatives, possibly taken without permission.
As the child is a minor, the authorities are also considering whether his parents may be held responsible for the situation.
“Possible mapasa ni sa parents kung naa ba silay pagpabaya kung nganong naabot sa bata ang armas,” he said.
Following the incident, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) took the student into custody for further evaluation. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to verify the gun’s ownership to ensure all angles of the case are addressed.
The police urged school officials to implement stricter measures, such as inspecting students’ bags to prevent dangerous items from entering school premises.
Parents were also reminded to keep a close eye on their children, ensuring they do not gain access to firearms or other harmful objects.
