Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Not In-Charge of PH amid Pres. Marcos Being in Lao PDR
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President is not the “caretaker” of the Philippines while Pres. Bongbong Marcos is in ASEAN according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
One of the usual events in being a president is to be away from one’s own country to attend international events, assemblies, and other important. Based on heirarchy of the positions, the public expects the vice president to take on the role of the chief executive.
However, it seems like there is a different case in the Philippines now while Pres. Bongbong Marcos is away for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. The Chief Executive recently flew to Lao PDR for the event.
According to the Presidential Communications Office or PCO, there is a committee that is the caretaker of the Philippines while Pres. Bongbong Marcos is in the ASEAN. Based on a report on GMA News, it is not Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Based on the report, speaking to the Palace reporters, Presidential Communications Office acting Secretary Cesar Chavez said that the caretakers of the Philippines are Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
Chavez stressed that Bersamin chairs the executive committee of the caretakers of the Philippines while Marcos is in Lao PDR for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
Duterte who was the running mate of Marcos during the 2022 Elections is seemingly not in good terms with the president. Previously, Duterte said that she will “never again” team up with the Marcoses.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that she and Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not start as friends and they only talked for the campaign. According to her, it is Senator Imee Marcos who is her friend.
