Millions of Filipinos are members of the Government Service Insurance System. More popularly called GSIS, it is one of the social insurance giants in the Philippines and Filipinos working in the government are mandated to maintain an active GSIS membership.
To maintain an active GSIS membership, a member must regularly post monthly contributions. An updated account may qualify a member to the benefit and loan offers of the state entity. There are several GSIS loans that were crafted to be financial solutions for members in times of need.
One of the loan offers of the Government Service Insurance System is the Emergency Loan offer or also called the GSIS Calamity Loan. It was crafted to help members in times of natural disasters, pandemic, or other situations that affect many people.
With regards to the GSIS Calamity Loan offer, it is open for GSIS members residing in calamity-hit areas who meet the following qualifications:
- a bona fide resident or employee of the government office within the declared calamity area
- be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay
- has no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions
- has no loan that has been declared in default
