IT’S SHOWTIME – Tony Dizon is the teacher who went viral from the trivia game segment and here’s what he said following the backlash.

“Throwbox” is the new segment of It’s Showtime. It is a trivia game that comes with boxes that has a year on them with corresponding prizes. In a previous article, the viral teacher from Showtime answered Gloria Macapagal Arroyo instead of Corazon Aquino.

Netizens online gave various reactions but most of them were amused as to how someone who talked so much about his academic achievements failed to answer such a fundamental question.

Before this, even though he was not asked by the hosts, he shared that he is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in educational leadership. He also has a master’s degree and he’s been teaching for eight years. Adding to this, he represented the Philippines at a research conference in Seoul National University in South Korea and stressed that he was the only Filipino there to present a paper.

He made quite an impression to which, to some people, was already bragging but forgot who is PH’s first female president. Due to this, he became the subject of ridicule and criticism online.

Recently, the teacher spoke and addressed the matter.

In a video, he expressed that he was surprised as to how things blew up online. He made a huge mistake but he was also surprised of himself because of his answer but he has to accept every criticism and every negative comment.

However, what was just saddening for him was “we are still in the era of making a mistake” and how one committed mistake can sum up an entire person. He shared that being in front of the public, knowing he’s on TV, and with a restricted time to answer, there was a lot of pressure.

“Sana naisip ninyo na ‘What if you are in that position?’ Yeah, that’s a very basic question, but dumadaloy sa ’yo ‘yung pressure, so hindi ka makakasagot talaga,” Dizon said.

After that viral incident, he will accordingly continue to learn, to work, and to research. He left a reminder about how normal it is to make mistakes and apologized to people who found him too proud of his accomplishments.

“I’m only proud because the path was harder than most will ever know and God knows the weight of it. But life is about growth, and in time, we’ll find where we’re truly valued and loved,” he said.
