Lawyer of Alice Guo Speaks on Former Mayor Amid Search for her Whereabouts
ALICE GUO – Attorney Stephen David, the lawyer of the former Mayor, insisted that his client wanted to surrender.
The Philippine authorities including the Bureau of Immigration believe that former Mayor Alice Guo is still in Indonesia. However, only the supposed sister of the former Mayor and the alleged representative of POGO in Porac, Pampanga were detained in Indonesia.
Alice Guo’s companions were detained in Indonesia and sent back to the Philippines. They are now in the custody of the authorities. Ong was sent to the House of Representatives while Guo is in the custody of the Senate.
According to Shiela Guo, Alice is not her biological sister. She also denied involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in Tarlac. According to her, she fled the Philippines together with Alice and Wesley Guo through a “small boat”.
Previously, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expressed his confidence that Guo will not be able to leave Indonesia. According to him, he has talked to the ASEAN ambassadors and they were already alerted about the case of the former Mayor in the Philippines.
Guo is not only accused of her alleged involvement in the illegal POGO operations in Tarlac now and her questionable identity. The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) also filed a P500,000 tax evasion complaint against the former Mayor.
Recently, the lawyer of former Mayor Alice Guo spoke on his client. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Attorney Stephen David insisted that the former Mayor really wants to surrender to the authorities.
However, according to Atty. David, Guo is worried about her safety. Based on the report, their last conversation was on August 22 and she was allegedly worried about the threats against her.
“‘Yung mga talagang detailed na usapan bound kami ng lawyer-client privilege, pero basically gusto niyang sumuko,” the lawyer said.
Based on the report, Atty. David claimed that there are a lot of oppositions as not only the government is allegedly interested on her. Meanwhile, the lawyer is hopeful that Guo will be convinced to surrender after seeing the security provided to Shiela.
According to Atty. David, he was able to talk to Wesley but he does not know his whereabouts. He stressed that Wesley called to ask about his sister, Shiela. The lawyer believes that the “truth” will set Shiela free as she is allegedly not involved in the illegal POGO operations.
