Rescue Team Saves 18-Year-Old Boy Who Fell into a Well While Spider Hunting
An 18-year-old boy was rescued after falling into a well while searching for a spider in Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City.
Spider hunting involves looking for and catching spiders, often just for fun or as part of cultural traditions. In some places, especially in the Philippines, this activity is popular among kids and teens.
The spiders are usually made to fight each other by placing them on a stick or similar surface to see which one wins. This is mostly done for entertainment and is sometimes tied to local customs.
Recently, a young man from Bacolod City accidentally fell into an abandoned well while searching for spiders.
According to Efren Sayon Jr., the Fire Chief of the Community Fire Auxiliary Group in Handumanan, the incident occurred when a group of children approached them, urgently asking for help.
The children had been looking for spiders in the area when one of them spotted their target. The 18-year-old eagerly volunteered to catch it, despite being advised by his friends to leave it alone.
Determined, he persisted but unfortunately slipped and fell into an abandoned well. His friends immediately sought assistance, but they were initially confused about what to do.
Fortunately, the rescue team arrived promptly and managed to save the boy. The teenager survived the fall because he knew how to swim and was able to stand on a rock inside the well to keep himself above water.
