#WalangPasok: Class Suspensions for Monday (August 5, 2024)

Class Suspensions for Monday (August 5, 2024)

WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspensions due to bad weather and transport strike.

On Monday, August 5, 2024, many schools will be closed due to inclement weather conditions and the “unity walk” to be conducted by some transport groups against the Public Transport Modernization Program.

In Metro Manila, schools in Malabon City and Navotas City have canceled classes for all levels, both public and private. This is because of heavy rain and the expected high tide around 11:22 a.m. which could cause more flooding.

Class Suspensions

Both mayors, Jeannie Sandoval of Malabon and John Rey Tiangco of Navotas decided to suspend classes to keep students safe from the worsening weather.

In Bulacan, specifically San Jose del Monte, classes are also canceled for all levels in both public and private schools. The reason here is a protest by public transport drivers that might make it hard for students to get to school.

In Mindanao, Montevista in Davao de Oro has also canceled classes. This is due to a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 that hit off the coast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur. The earthquake happened early Saturday morning, and schools are closed as a precaution.

Class Suspensions

The Southwest Monsoon, known locally as Habagat, will continue to bring rain to parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Additionally, transport groups are organizing a “Unity Walk” to protest the Public Transport Modernization Program, which might further affect transportation.

The public is advised to stay safe and check local updates to keep informed about any changes.
