Philippine cinema icon and Regal Films founder Lily Monteverde, lovingly called Mother Lily by many, passed away early yesterday morning. She went away a day after her husband of over 60 years has been laid to rest.
Mother Lily died at the age of 84 and the cause of her death has not been revealed.
In the official statement issued by the Monteverde family, they expressed that she is not only a mother in their family but also the mother many generations of Filipino filmmakers that molded the PH cinema today. She was a “true mother” to artists and workers and during her final hours, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was able to say goodbye to her closest friends and associates. As of current, her passing is being viewed as the end of era being one of the cornerstones of the industry. As per Senator Grace Poe, her “Ninang Mother will always be a titan in the Philippine movie industry”.
Celebrities pay tribute
Judy Ann Santos shared their last photo together taken pre-pandemic. She could still remember the tight embrace and the memories of her “firsts” in show business being under her management.
For Manilyn Reynes, nothing can accordingly replace the warmth of her tender embrace.
Vhong Navarro expressed his infinite gratitude for the trust and support Mother Lily had given him. She was among the people who were there for him in his low moments and he will forever remember this.

As for Maricel Soriano, she will dearly miss the Regal matriarch and expressed her hope that someday, they will meet again.
Vilma Santos also expressed her love and gratitude for Mother Lily in her post.
Iza Calzado, on the other hand, penned a long post of appreciation for Mother Lily who had given her a lot of opportunities to showcase her talent. She was a part of films from Regal such as Sabel, Sigaw, Eternity, Desperadas, Somebody to Love, Haunted Mansion, White House, and Shake, Rattle and Roll.
