Bus Conductor Earns Admiration for Helping Stranded Passengers Amid Typhoon Carina’s Onslaught
A bus conductor has earned admiration online for his exceptional efforts to help passengers stranded during severe flooding.
Recently, a Facebook user named Chloe Dela Cruz shared that their bus was stranded in Marilao, Bulacan due to severe flooding and the passengers were stuck for almost seven hours waiting for rescue.
The massive flooding was caused by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon. As the hours passed and hunger set in, the conductor, named Alfie Sta. Ana took it upon himself to wade through chest-deep floodwaters to buy food and water for everyone on board.
The bus conductor’s dedication didn’t stop there. He continued to search for rescue options and assisted passengers who decided to wade through the floodwaters to find a way out of the bus.
At around 4:30 p.m., Alfie once again ventured into the floodwaters, walking for an hour in search of help. Despite the dangerous conditions, including strong currents and dirty water, he carried the passengers’ bags on his shoulders to ensure they could hold onto each other and avoid being swept away.
When Alfie and the passengers finally reached shallower water, he helped them board a rescue truck and even bought dinner for everyone at a nearby 7-Eleven. Chloe noted that while Alfie’s actions could have been reimbursed by the company, the level of service and security he provided was invaluable.
The bus conductor continued to assist until everyone was safely transferred to another bus, which took them to their final destination in Bulakan, Bulacan. Chloe praised Alfie’s dedication and called on the bus company, German Espiritu Liner Incorporated, to recognize his efforts and take good care of such an exemplary employee.
