Office of the Solicitor General Speaks on Mayor Alice Guo amid Pending Arrest Order

Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra confirmed that his office is eyeing to file quo warranto against suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

Currently, there are still no information as to the whereabout of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. There is a pending arrest order issued by the Senate against Guo for her absence at the Senate hearings.

Mayor Guo did not attend the Senate hearings set last June 26 and July 10. On her absence from the latest Senate hearing, the lawyer of the suspended Mayor said that his client is both emotionally and physically drained because of the many allegations against her as well as “traumatized”.

The suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor is facing accusations over her alleged involvement in the Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town. She is also being questioned about her identity. Her fingerprints matched with the fingerprints of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping.

The Senate committee handling the case of Mayor Alice Guo cited her for contempt. Senate President Chiz Escudero signed the letter and an arrest order was released against the suspended Mayor.

Amid the pending arrest order against the Mayor, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier said that they are investigating Mayor Guo. Recently, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) also confirmed eyeing to file a quo warranto against the Mayor.

A quo warranto is a writ to challenge the person’s right to hold a public office. Based on a report on GMA News, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra expressed that they are just incorporating evidence that turned up from the Senate inquiry.

According to the OSG chief, they are hoping to file the quo warranto petition against Mayor Alice Guo before the end of July. The Office previously expressed its intent to file a quo warranto case as soon as possible after the NBI found the match between Mayor Guo and Chinese national Guo Hua Ping fingerprints matching.
