Office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Issues Statement amid Marcos SONA 2024
SARA DUTERTE – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) said that the VP who is now in Bohol will not watch the Marcos SONA 2024 on TV or gadgets.
Today, July 22, President Bongbong Marcos is set to deliver his third SONA or State of the Nation Address. It is an annual report by the Chief Executive on the programs of the government as well as its visions and priorities.
The Marcos SONA 2024 wherein analysts and lawmakers expect to cover key national issues is set at Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City at 4:00 p.m. It is expected to gather lawmakers, politicians, and known personalities in the government and many other fields.
However, prior to the national event, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has previously said that she will not attend the Marcos SONA 2024. According to her, she assigned herself as the “designated survivor”.
The term “designated survivor” is used in United States to describe a practice where the person who can succeed the president is kept away from a gathering of the chief and the other leaders of the nation.
The State of the Nation Address of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is currently ongoing at Batasang Pambansa. However, based on the statement issued by the Office of the Vice President as per a report of GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will not be watching the Marcos SONA 2024 on TV or gadgets.
According to the OVP, the Vice President is currently Bohol to empathize with the Boholanos following the death of their Vice Governor, Victor Balite, who died last Wednesday.
Based on the report, the OVP also noted that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is in Bohol “to uplift the general mood of the people brought about by the suspension of their duly-elected local officials”. The office of the Vice President also stressed that it is also an opportunity for her to bring a message of hope that there is a God that watches over us and we can fix the country through perseverance at helping each other.
Amid the many political issues, there are currently several questions on the real ties between Pres. Marcos and the Vice President now. It was only a few months ago when Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned as the DepEd secretary and left Marcos’ cabinet.
