LGBT Customer Criticized for Making Waiter Stand for Hours as Punishment
An LGBTQIA+ customer is being criticized for reportedly making a waiter stand for hours as punishment for calling him “Sir.”
Recently, John, Calderon, a Facebook user, noticed an LGBT customer and a waiter standing face to face at a restaurant in Cebu City. The post quickly circulated online and garnered reactions from netizens.
In the photos, Calderon noticed Jude Bacalso and a waiter standing face-to-face in what seemed like a long discussion around 4:00 pm. Calderon assumed they were just talking and went about his business.
However, when he saw that the waiter was still in the same position at 6:00 pm, he grew concerned and decided to investigate.
Calderon approached Bacalso to understand what was happening. Bacalso, who seemed annoyed, told Calderon to ask the waiter for the details. The waiter then explained that he was being punished for calling Bacalso “sir.”
Bacalso’s reaction was reportedly driven by a personal preference rather than a serious issue.
The LGBTQIA+ community member’s close connection to the restaurant’s owner meant that the other staff members were unable to intervene in the situation. Calderon, feeling that the punishment was excessive, stepped in to help the waiter, allowing him to take a break.
Calderon shared his frustration online, expressing disappointment in how Bacalso handled the situation. He felt that the incident reflected poorly on the LGBTQIA+ community, which he is also a part of.
“You voicing for LGBTQ? For that mere mistake sa server, is that how you want to influence? Part ko sa LGBT myself and you bring shame sa ating community,” said Calderon.
As of this writing, the restaurant has not made any official statement regarding the incident.
