75-Year-Old Grandma Continues to Sell Peanut Brittle
A 75-year-old woman goes viral online and touches hearts of netizens for selling peanut brittles despite old age.
A vendor is a person or entity that sells goods or services. Vendors typically operate in markets, online platforms, or physical locations where they offer products for sale to customers. They can range from individuals selling items like food or crafts on the street to businesses supplying goods in bulk to retailers.
On the side of the road in Cebu City, you can find an elderly vendor named Nanay Redilie Sala, counting coins while her grandson patiently waits by her side. Nanay Sala is well-known in her community for making and selling homemade peanut brittle, locally known as piniato.
Each pack of her delicious piniato sells for just P5 and is a favorite among the locals. Every day, starting at 4 p.m., she sets up her spot and sells her treats until everything is gone. Despite her age, Nanay Sala diligently prepares and sells her peanut brittle.
Nanay Sala has been making peanut brittle for over thirty years, and it remains her main source of livelihood. Each coin she counts represents a memory of her hard work and dedication.
Located in front of a pawnshop on Cardinal Rosales Avenue, at the corner of P. Cabantan St., Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, Nanay Sala sells her peanut brittle, which she cooks herself after buying ingredients from Carbon Market. Her grandchildren help her with the packaging.
For more than 20 years, her homemade peanut brittle has not only provided for her family’s needs but also supported her two children’s education. Nanay Sala’s dedication to her craft and her family is truly inspiring, proving that age is no barrier to hard work and commitment.
