Desperate Father Builds Creates Makeshift Coffin for Son Because He Can’t Afford One
SAN DIONISIO, ILOILO – A desperate father builds a makeshift coffin for his deceased son due to extreme poverty.
A coffin is a box or container in which a dead body is placed for burial or cremation. It is typically made of wood, metal, or other sturdy materials and is designed to protect and transport the body.
Coffins often have a lid and may be lined with fabric. They come in various styles and designs, depending on cultural, religious, and personal preferences.
Recently, the Facebook page Zarraga News Live Station shared a heartbreaking story of a father named Robin Solis who had to build a coffin for his deceased son because he couldn’t afford one from a funeral home.
The heartbreaking story immediately spread like wildfire online and garnered various reactions from social media users.
Robin’s son, Redwyn Solis, 33, passed away from acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, commonly known as “bangungot.”
Robin shared that his friend provided him with a glass panel to cover the coffin. To prevent any unpleasant odors, he used layers of scotch tape on the glass and around the body of the coffin.
Redwyn Solis, who was a father and a widower, died suddenly after consuming a large number of sticky rice cakes (suman) and alcoholic beverages before going to sleep. The father and son worked together in their local fields, and both lacked stable employment.
The Solis family lives in Purok 4, Brgy. Sua, San Dionisio. Robin’s inability to afford a proper coffin exposes the severe poverty they face. The coffin Robin crafted was made from a type of wood called Gemilina.
He explained that due to their financial hardships, he had no choice but to build the coffin himself.
Many netizens were touched by his dedication to giving his son a dignified farewell despite their dire circumstances.
