Man in Quezon City Arrested Over Carnapping Charges

A man was caught and arrested in Quezon City after stealing a parked motorcycle and replacing its parts.

The incident took place in Barangay Damayan, and footage shows the suspect walking around past 2 a.m. He sat on the side of the road near the motorcycle. Moments later, he approached the motorcycle, sat on it, and slowly pedaled it away.

The motorcycle owner reported the theft to the police, stating that he had parked the vehicle in front of his house the previous night. He discovered the motorcycle missing the next morning.

The police conducted a follow-up operation and successfully arrested the 24-year-old suspect. They recovered the motorcycle, which had already been repainted, and had some parts replaced.

“Ang only description na nag-identify ng motorsiklo niya is ‘yung seat cover niya. Kasi ‘yun talaga ‘yung seat cover ng motor niya. Na-verify natin ‘yung chassis number, it matches with the records sa OR/CR ng complainant. Match na match. Pero iba na ‘yung kulay, even the key, ignition key, pinalitan na rin,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Jewel Nicanor, Masambong Police Station Commander.

However, the suspect claimed innocence, saying he did not steal the motorcycle. He said he was a mechanic and was asked to repair the motorcycle without knowing it was stolen.

“Sa akin po inabot ‘yung motor. Mekaniko po ako eh. Bale pinapagawa po ‘yung motor na ‘yun then, hindi ko po alam na carnap pala ‘yung motor… Nakilala ko lang po ‘yun. Hindi na po binalikan,” explained the suspect.

The suspect has been charged with violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act. The police continue to investigate the incident to determine if there are other individuals involved in the theft.
