Malnourished Senior Citizen Found Extremely Thin and Unclothed in Park
A malnourished senior citizen who was found extremely thin and unclothed in a park in Santa, Ilocos Sur, died due to severe malnutrition.
Malnutrition refers to deficiencies, excesses, or imbalances in a person’s intake of energy and nutrients. It can have severe health consequences and is typically categorized into two main types: undernutrition and overnutrition.
Severe weight loss and muscle wasting can occur, making individuals more vulnerable to infections and illnesses. It also compromises the immune system, increasing the risk of infections and diseases.
Severe malnutrition can cause organ failure, affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, and other vital organs. It can lead to higher mortality rates, particularly in vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
Recently, the authorities found an elderly man in a weakened condition at the park. He was unable to communicate, and a cast was visible on his left leg. Immediately, the man was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
However, despite the efforts made, the senior citizen’s condition proved too dire, and he passed away the following day due to severe malnutrition. His identity remains unknown to this day.
The authorities have made arrangements to lay the unidentified man to rest on Thursday (June 20, 2024), as they continue their efforts to establish his identity and locate any potential family members or loved ones.
It serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, social safety nets, and the responsibility to ensure the well-being of all members of society, regardless of their circumstances.
