PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Rains Over Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will bring scattered rains over parts of the country.

On Saturday (June 8, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Habagat will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the southwest monsoon will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

Habagat will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Palawan. Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience similar weather conditions. Possible flash floods or landslides are expected during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the entire country will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA.

According to PAGASA, the heat index in Metro Manila is expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius at the Pasay City station of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and 39 degrees Celsius at the Science Garden in Quezon City, indicating an extreme caution level.

It was recommended to the public to take preventative measures against heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and cramps.

On Friday (June 7, 2024), Pagasa announced that the El Niño phenomenon has ended while the La Niña watch remains in effect.

“DOST [Department of Science and Technology]-Pagasa announces the end of El Niño, as the conditions in the tropical Pacific have returned to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO)-neutral levels. Moreover, a transition from ENSO-neutral to La Niña remains likely (about 69% chance) by July-August-September 2024 season,” Pagasa said.
